You'll have to ask Dean or Logan about that issue in the support topics for whichever mods you're trying to install.  The pip.xml file the error message above refers to is from one of their mods, but I don't know which one.  For some reason, the installer is not reading the XML file they created for their mod.

Hi Μichael, thanks for the reply,

I've now tried it with 5 different mods and It's the same error on all of them except the file name is different (obviously as there different files) :

As I say every error is the same, all files have been chmoded to 777 so that I can eliminate that being responsible, do you think that all these mods can have errors, something on my server stopping it working (don't think its that as the xml worked to install the UMI) ??

If you could offer any advice I would be really greatfull

I know it's not a CHMOD issue, for some reason that seems to be what most people think is the problem but it rarely actually is the issue behind errors like this.  The only thing that comes to mind is restrictions as set by your host about where scripts can execute.  The line the error is referring to is using the file() PHP function, maybe your host has a restriction that won't let that function execute anywhere but the forum's root directory, that would explain why the XML import process of installing the mod was successful.

Unfortunately that's about the best advice I can give you.  I have run into similar issues like this on a handful of other occasions, but they are always unique to the individual users who report them; I'm never able to reproduce the issues on my set up.  And since I have only ever used shared hosting, I don't manage my own server to tell you what specific things may need changed.

That shows up, the mods I tried to install are the Members Online Today mod and the Members Registered Today mod. Neither of which are displayed on the index, where they are supposed to.

The settings are all configured right too.
Help!

You mean you have used this to install the mods, and the installation went well, but the things those two mods were supposed to show on your board did not show?  Did you do the file edits for those mods from their instructions?

And you saved and uploaded the edited files?  Make sure you did this, sometimes FTP programs will have an error in the uploading process and not tell you about it.

Thanks anyway. smile.gif

Well I finally decided to delve in and have a look at this mod. I initially thought that installing a mod to install mods was just more work but I must say this is really quite impressive. Installation of this and the subsequent mods I tried, all went without hitch and I had maybe 6-8 mods installed in less than an hour (on test board). Thanks for the hard work, Mike,  for it saves me plenty and is appreciated  thumbsup.gif This really should be incorporated into the standard software smile.gif

I am installing this on 2.2 RC 3 and have drawn a blanks with "Install - Log in to your board's Admin CP, and on the Admin tab, click the Components -> Manage Components menu link. At the bottom of this page will be a box labeled 'Import XML Component File'. Use the first option there to browse to the ipd_components.xml file included in this folder and click the Import button."

When I log into my ACP on the fresh install there is no Manage Components link.

The skin tools don't affect the ACP skin at all, that's not going to help.

Heath, you don't see this link in your ACP?
