File Name: [Unsupported] SE22-Manage Modifications 1.2
File Submitter: Sean
File Submitted: 18 Jan 2007
File Updated: 10 Feb 2007
File Category: IP.Board v2.2.x Mods

This mod adds a section to your ACP where you can list what modifications you have installed on your board. You can also list the version of the mod, the author and the website you got it from. Very useful if you have lots of mods installed on your board.

Now this is the first modification I've ever made for IPB, so please be gentle. If you find any bugs, report them in the topic for this mod.

Thanks to Mike, Ove and ntd1712 for helping me out when I ran into problems smile.gif

Requirements:
This mod was designed to be installed using the Universal Mod Installer, available from Invision Modding, D-Scripting or IPS Resources.

Version History
1.0
  • First initial release of modification...
1.1
  • Added date column
  • Added edit feature
  • Added various checks to ensure data is being entered correctly
1.2
  • Complete code re-write. Cleaned up a bit with small bug fixes.

That is a great mod for a first one, altough as all modification mods that were created before, there is no good way to make all mods support it so it will actually list ALL of the mods installed on the board, the closest thing that came accross this is Mike's UMI.
but great job m8 smile.gif

How about in the next release, an attachment feature(So that the admin can keep a copy of file on server) , time/date and Edit Feature.

The reason I ask this is alot of times I get mod requests for something needed to be installed or upgrades by the requester if they already have it installed, it would be nice to know if they are in need of an upgrade. I'm hooked on Michaels installer and I add it to any board I work on so that I know for sure any mods that use it is outdated or not, but not all mods as we know are compatible with it yet or maybe not necessary. So I would like to see maybe the additional features that would surely make this mod more beneficial to me and my work. Below would be added benefits:
  1. Save me trouble looking for it deep inside a download system.
  2. Save me trouble of looking for it on my computer( which sometimes is a buggy vs that I since applied manual edits).
  3. Some modders forget to change there file version when updating their mods, so its a pain in the arse occasionally for big mods.
  4. Save the modders bandwidth & Keeps me from looking like a leech  w00t.gif .
  5. The date feature would also give me heads up for when modders make changes to mods that don't deem a version number change(Usally forgotten fixes).
  6. Ability to edit so that you can change info instead of deleting/adding if its only a version/url/author change

the bit about saving a copy to your server sounds like a good addition.. it would need to generate a random file name tho, just in case someone starts leeching on your bandwidth..

Oooo..this has just given me an idea for the mod installer.. smile.gif

:note: it may be a stupid one.. its been a long day.. laugh.gif

I'm working on the date (this version already logs the date, I just didn't set it to display...) and the edit feature... By attachment feature do you mean a way to upload the mod installed for reference? I'll have to see if my limited skills can stretch that far laugh.gif

File Updated...

New features added:
  • Ability to edit.
  • Date column.
  • Various checks to ensure data is being entered.
Working on the upload feature... I need to do a bit more research before I can attempt that smile.gif

--------------------------

To upgrade, simply overwrite your old files:
../mod_install/se_mm_com.xml
../sources/components_acp/se_mm.php

Do NOT re-run the installer if upgrading, simply overwriting the files will do the job smile.gif

In a future release, I'd like to see the ability to sort the list, by either Mod Name, version, Author, etc?

I'll update it tommorow after work wink.gif

For now, just open se_mm.php

Find:
CODE
$this->ipsclass->DB->do_update ( 'se_mm', array ( 'se_name' => $this->ipsclass->input['se_name'], 'se_version' => $this->ipsclass->input['se_version'], 'se_author' => $this->ipsclass->input['se_author'], 'se_website' => $this->ipsclass->input['se_website'], 'se_date_added' => time(), ) );

Replace with:
CODE
        $edit_array = array( 'se_name'         => $this->ipsclass->input['se_name'],
                             'se_version'     => $this->ipsclass->input['se_version'],
                             'se_author'     => $this->ipsclass->input['se_author'],
                             'se_website'     => $this->ipsclass->input['se_website'],
                             'se_date_added' => time()
                            );

        $this->ipsclass->DB->do_update( 'se_mm', $edit_array, 'se_id=' . $id );

It would be cool if you could mark a radio button if it required skin edits.  I install a lot of mods on my forum, and when i install a new skin, some times i forget the mods that required skin edits. This way ill know the mods and which ones i have to change the skin edits for.

just a thought..

Another suggestion may be to include additional URL/links for the modification.
Why?
Well, usually you can download a mod from different places and there are also (maybe more relevant) several support topics in different places (e.g. IPSBeyond, IZE, InvisionModding, etc). Sometimes you need to read through all support topics to find a solution to the problem at hand, and if this mod had a way of (per modification) store those additional link, all the better. In that way, even more information could be gathered into the ame place (this mod of course  rolleyes.gif ).

Another nifty thing would be to have a general comments field connected to a specific mod, allowing you to write some special remark that you want for that mod. Compare to the 'ACP Notes' in the ACP section of IPB.
