Thanks for posting this...unfortunately, it is not working properly...nothing thinking it is your fault though I think it has something to do with the original IPB problem with 'New Posts' not showing as read even after they have been.

I had a new post, it showed in the member bar as it should, however, after reading it I still showed 1 new post in the member bar.

Does this show posts from private forums aswell or does this function (View New Posts) automatically hide posts from such forums ?

At the bottom of the Board Index page pick the 'Mark all posts as read' link.

Thanx for that ... Is there a way of reseting $unread to 0 with a simple line though??

eg

$_unread["reset"]

or something like that?

Go to member_bar. Find:
$unread {$this->ipsclass->lang['view_new_posts']}

and replace with:
<if="$unread > 0"><a href="{$this->ipsclass->base_url}act=Search&amp;CODE=getnew"><span style='color:yellow'><b>$unread {$this->ipsclass->lang['view_new_posts']}</b></span></a>
</if>
<if="$unread == 0"><a href="{$this->ipsclass->base_url}act=Search&amp;CODE=getnew">$unread {$this->ipsclass->lang['view_new_posts']}</span></a>
</if>

note: you can change:
'color:yellow'
to a color of your own choosing.

the above information was copied directly from the tutorial this topic refers to!

regards

Richard
