Adding the gender and group things would fit better if you replaced it with this:
//----------------------------------------- // Build up the hashes //----------------------------------------- $mem_group = $this->ipsclass->vars['member_group'];By doing that you'll still have the possibility of buying a subscriptions pack, and be promoted to the group assigned to the pack

Great tip! I am a bit new to this (ie. I know nothing about coding but am learning fast!), but I am setting up a new site.
In it, there is an option for people to select where they are from. ie. Now if someone registers as being from "England" then I can force them into a little group called "England"... which is very helpful. I don't want you to go out of your way and do it, but is it theoretically possible to set the user's default calendar to an England calendar based upon their group?
