Sometimes, it's not always clear if a modification that involves file edits will work on an IPS hosted (encoded) board. To help with this, I have compiled a small list of which files are encoded. ;)

Encoded files are shown in red, everything else is not encoded. If a whole directory is listed in red, that means that all files inside that and in each subdirectory are encoded.

3.1.x:

/index.php
/initdata.php
/xml.php
/admin/index.php
/admin/api
/admin/applications

/admin/applications_addon
/admin/extensions
/admin/install
/admin/setup
/admin/skin_cp
/admin/sources/base
/admin/sources/classes
/admin/sources/handlers
/admin/sources/interfaces

/admin/sources/loginauth
/admin/sources/template_plugins
/admin/upgrade
/converge_local
/interface
/ips_kernel
/lofiversion
/public

3.0.x:

/index.php
/initdata.php
/xml.php
/admin/index.php
/admin/api
/admin/applications/core/extensions
/admin/applications/core/modules_admin
/admin/applications/core/modules_public

/admin/applications/core/setup
/admin/applications/core/skin_cp
/admin/applications/core/sources
/admin/applications/core/sql
/admin/applications/core/tasks
/admin/applications/forums/extensions
/admin/applications/forums/modules_admin
/admin/applications/forums/modules_public

/admin/applications/forums/setup
/admin/applications/forums/skin_cp
/admin/applications/forums/sources
/admin/applications/forums/sql
/admin/applications/forums/tasks
/admin/applications/members/extensions
/admin/applications/members/modules_admin
/admin/applications/members/modules_public

/admin/applications/members/setup
/admin/applications/members/sources
/admin/applications/members/sql
/admin/applications/members/tasks
/admin/applications_addon
/admin/extensions
/admin/install
/admin/setup
/admin/sources
/admin/upgrade
/converge_local
/interface
/ips_kernel
/lofiversion
/public
/retail

2.3.6:

/index.php
/init.php
/admin.php
/admin/index.php
/cache
/converge_local
/install/index.php
/install/core/
/install/custom
/install/sql

/interface
/ips_kernel/
/jscripts/folder_rte_files
/lofiversion
/modules
/resources/version_history.php
/retail
/skin_acp/IPB2_Standard/acp_skin_html
/sources/ipsclass.php
/sources/acp_loaders/
/sources/action_admin/
/sources/action_public/

/sources/api
/sources/classes
/sources/components_acp
/sources/components_init
/sources/components_location
/sources/components_public
/sources/handlers
/sources/lib

/sources/loginauth
/sources/portal_plugins
/sources/sql
/sources/tasks
/upgrade

So, what are we supposed to do if files are encodded that a mod wants us to edit? I'm assuming just give up?

You will probably be unable to install that modification in that case then unfortunately. ;)

It is always worth asking in the support topic for that mod though, the author may have a work-around or may be able to suggest something else etc. It's always possible the mod may function with out a certain edit but may have reduced functionality, as I say, always worth asking rather than giving up immediately.

Makes more sense if this is in the 3.0.x and 3.1.x category ;)

I did intend on moving it (or splitting it into two and leaving a legacy one in 2.3.x) but it slipped my mind ;)

Are there any 2.3 boards left that are encoded? With 2.3 support ended, one would thought that the boards left were forced to upgrade.
