Work has been taking place this week on preparing the site for the upgrade to IP.Board 3.0. We always like to stay on the cutting edge of Invision's software here, as it gives us the best chance of helping all of you other early adopters. As such, we are planning on migrating to IP.Board 3.0 soon after it comes out. In order to do this, we need to make sure the modifications we use here (especially the major ones like our Tutorials, Services, and Store systems) get updated to be compatible with IP.Board 3.0 quickly. We have gone through and made a comprehensive list of all modifications, large and small, we use here so that we know what we need to upgrade. Some work has started on upgrading these mods, but the current beta version of IP.Board 3.0 has some bugs in it that prevent us from progressing too far in this endeavor.
Likewise, these bugs have impacted our regular mod releasing plans. We had hoped to be able to crank out early versions of our popular mods for testing on IP.Board 3.0 beta 1, but it has turned out that these bugs essentially prevent the mods from being installable by others. We have word that beta 2 will resolve these issues, so we are hopeful that when beta 2 comes out we will be able to start releasing the first batch of true IP.Board 3.0 modifications.
Here are a few of the bugs in beta 1 that impact mod making:
- Language bits are not added to database during install.
- Skin templates are not inserted during hook/application install.
- Unable to create an application with no public side.
- No tool exists to create master skin files.
Also, AndyF has joined our Support Staff group. Andy is well known here and at the Invision Power Services forums, so we feel very honored to have him on our staff here as well. Andy's been a regular here for a while, helping people out with their support issues, so not much will change there, but we should hopefully be able to pass off even more work on him now.
Work on updating the Client Service Center component for IP.Board 3.0 has been continuing as well, but as noted above, the bugs in IP.Board 3.0 which affect other mods are also taking their toll on being able to throw our full weight behind this project. Apart from that, the staff is also working on some other projects that we don't want to publicly announce yet, but that list includes at least one project that had previously been announced but did not materialize at the time. 2009 is shaping up to be a big year for us, we're happy you all are along for the ride.
