I'd like a stand-alone script of some kind for a basic Blog. Been looking around for a free Blog script, have tried WordPress yesterday, its ok but I was after something else really. I could not find a way to remove certain features easily (without chopping the code about)

I was actually just this moment considering not using a php script at all and simply making some nice static HTML pages, I thought once I had a nice "template" (header / footer etc), I could just add sections and pages to it as and when, but this seems to me I'd be going a little bit "too far"

Note: This is nothing IPB related, I have Invision Blog on my board already and use it ( sometimes ;) ). This is for another site (which does not even have a forum)

Has anyone got any others they recommend I have a look at (as simple as possible ideally, I don't need fancy features or a full blown CMS or anything)

:)

I can't find the link that I had to test blogs, forums, etc online because I'm not home for another 2 weeks, but here is a comparison chart that might help you.

Thanks :)

The top link was more interesting , looks like I have some downloading / testing and installing to do ;)

Although if anyone has a stand-alone Blog , (no need for a link or anything) I would love to hear which one you use and what you think of it etc. :)

Thanks for the follow-up ;)

I'm still going through them as time permits :)

Currently I'm looking at Nucleus.

There was one higher up the list (I forget which) that did not like my server and tried to do something (inserting raw php into the URL) , but I'm looking at the home pages for each of them and then trying the ones that look OK to me.

:)

I have tried almost all of them Andy, and your right to get away from WordPress if you want to customize much. WP is great for someone who just wants to install it, setup sidebars, and write.

The two I like best for customizing, which I often do to write my own blog skins, are:

Movable Type: http://www.movabletype.org/

Expression Engine: http://expressionengine.com/

Movable type is easier to change layout on. They have what they call a "sytle catcher" which loads default CSS styles in fluid, fixed, 2 column, 3 column, etc etc. Changing styles is as simple as loading a custom CSS into the style catcher with colors and images to suit your skin. The default blog.css has not images and a few default colors. OTOH the php and html is fairly rigid, unless you want to delve into Movable Type's template system.

Expression Engine is easier if you want to really get into php/html editing. The CSS also easy to edit, although you need to paste it into their editor. Both use a modular approach to blog design: sort of like forum skin templates. But that seems to be the standard now days.

Anyway give them both a skin before you decide (both are free).

I've been using wordpress and I like it because it is very user friendly. You can also visit blogspot.com for alternative. Blogspot.com has nice skins. I also like it.
