A friend of mine has asked I help him to change the domain name for his current Invision forum on his current hosting service.  He is going to handle the domain name change for his license with Invision and I will do the rest. With the new update out I would like to move forward with this for him.  I've used the search feature here to try and find an answer but came up with nothing.

How do I go about doing a domain name change?

Thanks.

On the forum itself you need only change the URL in the conf_global.php file, then also change the URLs in ACP >> Tools & Settings >> General Configuration.

The rest is taken care of when the new domain is setup in his assigned DNS servers.

Propagation will take up to a couple of days, and in the meantime it will at times be looking for the old forum. That can be forced (at least for you) by adding the line below to your WINDOWS hosts file until the propagation settles.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

184.75.241.21 codinglair.net

Replace the IP and domain with the new IP and domain.

Thank you!  He is assigning the IP to his new domain name and we are going to give it a day before making the changes.
