since they changed the registration interface
they removed the display name @ Registration

so any idea?

What that topic says is that it is an easy mod to create. Although, I don't know if someone has created a mod to do it already. The topic discusses that the hard part of adding display name upon registration back in is that each time someone chooses their display name, it has to be validated against all existing names to make sure it is not taken, which is the tricky part of creating the mod.

The person who posted that link didn't necessarily answer your question, just pointed out that it's possible, with a couple tricky parts to make it work.
