some will upload fine and others wont at all it says file wasnt selected

What sort of files (extension) are they that fail ?
If you are using the flash uploader, find one that fails, then try to upload just that one on its own to see if its an issue with that file or something else.

they are mp3 files i tried that and it still didnt work now its saying the files are to large when i have uploadede some prior

Go to Forums > Post Attachments
Make sure .mp3 is listed (it normally is)
If that's fine, go to Members > Manage Groups > (edit your group) > 'Global' tab > Uploading section > Adjust that as needed and save.
Note the maximum file size in the description, that is set by php (sometimes its at 2mb) if you need to upload more than that you need to ask your host to increase php's upload_max_filesize and max_post sizes
